ABOUT US
In January 1980, a group of Ponce leaders decided to organize themselves to continue operating independently the medical school of the city of Ponce, known as Ponce Medical School Foundation and which was initially linked to the Pontificia Universidad Católica de PR (1977). For the month of July 1980, the Council of Higher Education of Puerto Rico authorized the Foundation to operate the Ponce School of Medicine and the following year (1981) the Liasion Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accredited the award of the degree of medicine to School. The new administration, governed by a Board of Trustees, graduated its first medical class of 23 professionals and successfully handled the challenges of operating an independent school for nearly 35 years.
In September 2014, Ponce Medical School, known at the time as Ponce School of Medicine and Health Sciences, acquired by Tiber Health Public Benefit Corporation and converted into Ponce Health Sciences University. As a result of said process, a successor, independent and non-profit foundation, was established under the name Ponce Health Sciences Education Foundation Inc. d/b/a Fundación Intellectus.
Intellectus Foundation maintains a solid commitment to the academic development of medical and health students, awarding scholarships and sponsoring mentoring and community service programs for these young people.
Intellectus Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors, who guide the organization towards a sustainable future ensuring that it has the necessary resources to achieve its mission.
