INTELLECTUS FOUNDATION SUPPORTS YOUNG UNIVERSITY TO PREVENT CANCER

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”3348″ img_size=”full”][vc_column_text]By Sin Comillas  A group of young people from five universities have joined forces to guide their peers on the practices that they should change to reduce the possibility of developing cancer. The CIPECA interuniversity committee, led by Dr. Julio Jiménez of the Ponce Research Institute, and supported by the Intellectus Foundation, managed to convene more than one hundred and fifty university students who received a comprehensive orientation on the subject.   The lectures on the myths and realities of cancer, and on sexuality, the human papillomavirus and its link with cancer, were accompanied by a theatrical performance of how cancer impacts our families and by the talk of rapper PJ Sin Suela, who besides being a rapper studied medicine. Dr. Pedro J. Vázquez (PJ Sin Suela) spoke to the university students about risk factors or conditions that increase the possibility of developing cancer. In his conference he exhorted them to change from today to healthier practices such as quitting smoking, reducing alcohol consumption, exercising and maintaining a diet as healthy as possible to minimize this risk.   Recognizing that less than 15% of cancer is associated with hereditary factors and that risk factors must be attacked to reduce the incidence of cancer, the Intellectus Foundation supports this innovative educational project.
